Areas of Responsibility

The Director of Public Relations will be responsible for all activities related to conceptualizing and implementing PR strategies, creating media awareness and achieving corporate targets. This position will create the compelling PR/media message for our guests, residents, retail consumers, media and travel professionals, enabling a level of trust and respect for the Canyon Ranch brand along with forging productive relationships as we grow brand awareness.

The Director of Public Relations supports the Canyon Ranch mission and vision by exhibiting behaviors of caring, compassion, “heart & soul”, excellence, collaboration, innovation, respect, commitment and accountability. In addition, a personal embracement of our mission of healthy living and awareness of wellness is critical.

Primary Duties

· Execution of the strategic and operational plans through PR positioning, generating occupancy, media placements, journalistic materials to differentiate Canyon Ranch and domestic and international awareness.
· Works to create and execute the media plan through internal and external resources and revenue generating avenues.
· Responsible for all competitive review and PR research activities in conjunction with development partners and internal development teams.
· Creates a company wide PR reporting function that can track, measure and analyze performance.

Qualifications

A minimum of 7-10 years progressively responsible experience in Public Relations/Media Relations or related discipline is required. This position reports to the Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Public Relations and will interact at all levels in the company.

We would prefer a candidate with exposure to agency side of PR along with experience in a mid-size to large luxury brand organization. Exceptional journalism and editorial skills are required and we will request review of your portfolio.

Demonstrated accomplishments in the development and execution of a PR/media strategic and operational plan through innovative and creative techniques are essential. A command of effective PR/media techniques and a working knowledge of PR outlets, along with familiarity with luxury brands including resort, hotel, real estate and retail sales are highly desirable.

Communication skills are essential - we are looking for an inspirational director who resonates with confidence, exudes charisma, has presence, is articulate, persuasive, and is able to communicate in various settings with all levels of internal and external people. Strong mentoring and leadership skills are necessary to lead the team members in the PR department.

The Sr. Public Information Rep., reporting to the Director of Marketing Communications, works in close collaboration with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Alumni Affairs and the UCPA Senior Director of Marketing, as well as colleagues in the UC San Diego Alumni Affairs office to create and implement strategic marketing communications efforts to foster within the alumni community a life-long engagement with and commitment to the university, in alignment with the vision and strategies of the UCSD Alumni Association.

This position is responsible for overseeing the creation and distribution of relevant and appropriate institutional marketing communications efforts supporting the promotion of programs and services through strategic planning, research, writing, content development and collateral production. The incumbent will lead and/or contribute to content synergy for alumni publications, newsletters (online and print) and websites also leverage these communications vehicles through local and national media relations, public relations, marketing and online and new media efforts to support the outreach efforts of the Alumni Association. This position will serve as the primary liaison for alumni communications within Alumni Affairs and the UCSD Alumni Association and all External Relations departments, including University Communications and Public Affairs, and the Office of Development.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Proven ability to create and conduct local and national public relations campaigns and proven excellent news judgment and interviewing skills. Demonstrated knowledge of local and national media and higher education alumni issues.
* Demonstrated ability to design and implement comprehensive communications plans for single events and major programs this includes defining goals, identifying target audiences and creating and implementing action plans and timelines.
* Proven ability to identify and effectively target and place stories with local and national media in order to support overall strategic communications plan.
* Superior written and oral communication skills that demonstrate correct grammar, usage, syntax, and format to write and edit press materials for a lay audience and to write interesting feature articles for internal and external media that highlight events and news from UCSD Alumni Association and Alumni Relations, or stellar alumni. Collaborate with other departments at UC San Diego.
* Demonstrated ability to use effective journalistic style in writing and editing news releases, media advisories, tip sheets, expert sheets, and pitches to the news media.
* Proven ability to work in close collaboration with the AVC for Alumni Relations and colleagues in the UCSD Alumni Association to create and implement strategic marketing communications efforts to foster within the alumni community a life-long engagement with and commitment to the university. Demonstrated experience in issues management.
* Demonstrated ability to oversee the creation and distribution of relevant and appropriate institutional marketing communications efforts supporting the promotion of programs and services through strategic planning, research, writing, content development and collateral production.
* Proven ability to take the lead and/or contribute to content synergy for alumni publications, newsletters (online and print) and websites also leverage these communications vehicles through local and national media relations, public relations, marketing, and online efforts to support the outreach efforts of the Alumni Association.
* Must serve as the "voice of alumni" and the primary liaison for alumni communications within the UCSD Alumni Association as well as all External Relations departments, including Alumni Relations, University Communications and Public Affairs, and the Office of Development.
* Proven ability to coordinate new media outreach, including facebook and other social networking sites and podcasts.
* Must have access to transportation necessary for occasional off-campus assignments.
* Must be available for occasional weekend assignments and have the ability to monitor daily newspaper reports and television.

Stacey Doss Doherty PR is looking for a PR Consultant to work in-house at our client's office, Qualcomm (Enterprise Services division, www.qualcomm.com/qes) in La Jolla, CA. The position is 4 days/week, approximately 8 hours/day. Excellent monthly fee offered.

Technology experience and 5-10 years experience in the public relations industry required. Excellent writer, strategic planner and strong skills in interpersonal communications required. Will work with external team including a PR VP (whom this position will report to), a PR Account Executive and a PR Account Coordinator.
